A wedding cake today isn’t just a traditional dessert, it’s a way to highlight your wedding style and theme. Besides ordering a delicious masterpiece, you’ll need to show it off, so your display should be cool, too. Here are some expert tips and examples that may be useful to keep your cake safe and display it the best way possible.
Where To Display
The wedding cake is usually brought out at the start of the wedding reception and cut just before the evening celebrations begin. Consider the location: make sure that no one is walking past and the cake is still seen very well. Make sure that your cake isn’t placed in front of a window as it may deteriorate quicker. Don’t put your cake in front of a fire extinguisher or a door either. Avoid the dance floor as active guests may end up too close to the cake or even ruin it.
Keep in mind that if the day is hot and the reception is outside, your cake should be brought out as late as possible to avoid icing melting.
If it's an outdoor wedding reception, keep your cake far from the sun rays and make sure no bugs are eating it.
The Cake Table
Your venue will provide a table and a tablecloth plus a cake knife but if you have something special in mind, bring them all with you. Visually, round tables work better but square ones are a good idea, too. The tablecloth for the wedding cake display should be clean, ironed and long enough to reach the floor all the way round the table. Light up your wedding cake but not too much: make sure that the light is not harsh enough to cause the icing to melt.
A vintage trolley may be a cool take on a usual table and it will bring a vintage feel to the space.
If you are having a modern or minimalist wedding, why not go for an acrylic cube instead of a usual cake table.
Cake Stands
First of all, consider the weight of your wedding cake: your stand should be able to hold the weight. Make sure that your stand matches the style and theme of your wedding and that it’s clean and polished. Make sure that your stand has a proper size and maybe even shape to fit the cake.
